Stone garden 03

Metal wire. A river stone. A small loudspeaker. A piezo microphone. Max/MSP/Jitter

A sound installation.

Stone Garden 03 is a sound installation created in 2016 for an event at POST Gallery in Kaunas, Lithuania.

A hanging metal wire is used to directly connect a piezo contact microphone and loudspeaker, creating an acoustic feedback loop.

As energy builds up within the system the sound quickly builds towards overload, playing various harmonic frequencies of the wire, before falling back on itself.

A loudspeaker sits nearby on the floor playing two metrical but irregular sounds.

A river stone hangs from the end of the wire to give the wire tension. I have been making installation works with stones since 2003. For me they reference time spent in Japan, and the notion that certain realisations and understandings can only be accessed through 'physical thinking' --doing-- as opposed to front-of-head rationality.
